New Year, New Beginnings

Do you ever just feel like the stars align, and if you would just truly open your eyes, then the signs you’ve been searching for are right there in front of you? Like you finally are starting to see something you didn’t even know you were looking for? That’s me, right now. I feel as though I’m waking up, and didn’t know I was sleeping.

This change within myself started sometime last year. My cousin and I decided to start a Family Book Club, as we both felt like we needed to be reading more. Prior to children I used to be an avid reader. It didn’t come naturally, but the older I got the more important it felt to read more and expand my world. After children, I stopped reading. I occasionally read parenting books on “how to get my child to sleep through the night so you’re not miserable” or “why does my toddler throw tantrums like a wild animal,” but overall I lost that part of myself. Book club was the perfect reason to read again, and something fun to do as a family. My cousin chose Tools of Titans; Its an intimidating 673 pages, and I devoured it. Reading this book, reignited a part of myself I had forgotten. The part of myself that had slipped away the more diapers I changed and bottles I pumped.

Since reading Tools of Titans, I reKINDLEd (literally I got a Kindle) my passion for reading and self-improvement. The books since Tools of Titans, led me to The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, and to my new journey to be the best version of myself in 2018. There are so many incredible things I would love to share about this book, and I will, just not today. Thus, I am starting my own Happiness Project for 2018, with my own spin. My hope is that the concept of increasing happiness in subtle everyday ways will increase my personal happiness, those around me, and hopefully resonate with you as well.

So to start the year off right I’m setting goals for each month. Different areas of my life that I would like to improve. I’m sure there will be failures with my successes, but as my darling husband says “It will all buff out!”
